The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited
Nigerian Content Development Advisor Job ID: F16667

Location: Lagos , Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Shell companies have been finding and producing oil and gas around the world for over a century. Today, we have interests in exploration and production ventures in more than 39 countries and employ approximately 19,000 staff (not including contractors).

This is a technically challenging work environment characterised by a continuing need for research, the pursuit of new technology, and the adoption of new ways of working. It demands people who will thrive in a culture that encourages and rewards innovation, collaboration and the ability to learn from success as well as failure.

The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) is the pioneer and leader of Nigeria’s petroleum industry. It has the largest acreage in the country and produces some 43 per cent of the nation’s oil.

The company’s operations are concentrated in the Niger Delta and adjoining shallow offshore areas where it operates in an area of around 31,000 square kilometres. SPDC has more than 6,000 kilometres of pipelines and flowlines, 87 flowstations, eight gas plants and more than 1,000 producing wells.

The company employs some 5,000 people directly, of whom 95 per cent are local employees. Another 20,000 people are employed indirectly through the network of companies, which provide supplies and services. Together with its Joint Venture Partners, SPDC produces an average of 1 million barrels of oil per day.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is responsible for Contracting & Procurement for our companies in Nigeria, and aims to deliver what the business needs from our contractors for the exploration and production of oil and gas. 80% of our expenditure is through contracts with third parties, and we’re responsible for the execution of the entire process to put these contracts in place.

We’re involved in contract strategy development, invitation to tender preparation, tender evaluation, contract award and subsequent post contract management. Our activities span risk management, business improvement, Nigerian content and local capacity development, and we interact with many parts of the organisation to ensure that the supply chain adds value to the business.

SCM staff are encouraged to gain professional qualifications, primarily the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS). We’re currently looking to recruit two Nigerian Content Development Advisors to join us in Port Harcourt and Lagos.

  • Produce an internal awareness campaign of processes, procedures and workshops
  • Work on interface issues management
  • Participate in the monitoring of meetings and visits
